Private Party

Encounter - Kobold Lair, Outside

The PCs arrived at the site of the Kobold Lair and entered into battle with many patrolling Kobolds.

After a long battle, the PCs emerged victorious but saved their celebrations because they knew it wasn’t over yet. A warning was sent to the Kobolds inside directed to Irontooth who may be among them.

On the Kobold bodies, the PCs found:
  • 1 – Light Shield
  • 4 gp, 17 sp

Gained 115 XP.

I can’t believe I went into that magic circle without knowing what it did first.

Nick, after making my own campain, I think we have way to much exp. Are you dividing the exp total among 6 people? kobals minions at lvl 1 are only 25ep per fight and the standard monsters are around 100 to 200 so yeah…

Maybe the treasure too?

I thought about this. Can anyone show me an official answer? We’ll have to compensate if this is true.

Treasure is ok though. You’ve been splitting it up already.

DMG Pg 120. Earning XP paragraph. I have a breakdown of what we are suppose to have.

Encounter - Kobold Lair, Outside

If we reduce our XP to what we should have its 705 XP each. I factored an average of 5 characters per encounter. Those not present level along with the party but do not share treasure.

Alternative is keep our current levels, scale the enemies to match, and do not earn XP until caught up.

I am ok with reducing our XP to 705

BTW there was 6 characters per encounter. I don’t know if that matters. Maybe you need to adjust the encounters because we have one extra person. The module was design for a party of 5. Maybe treasure needs to be adjusted… due to the extra person. What do u think?

haha , i have you all know that dispite the level difference , We were still having trouble with the kobals, i was told the treasures were screwed up in the orginal campains so do a bit of a double checking. should be intersting to not have all that level and i’m not even sure if the others know what’s going to happened. SHould be fun whens the next thing? Keep in mind jay might be gone for a week to do work in the states

See Ripples in Time adventure log for updates.

You guys didn’t have any problems yet with the Kobolds. I always felt it was too easy for you.

Tell me where you heard the treasures were messed up. I think you guys are doing ok for level 1 chars. Also consider that fat 100gp everyone got from Pegason.

I agree. It isn’t overly hard.

Uh here’s the treasure thing i was talking about.

dragzmaxz: i know do you know if hte mods really have treasure problems then? Solik D: Yes, they do. The first four modules have all been verified as not following the game’s rules for treasure totals. Solik D: Some people suggest that the DM is expected to fill in the blanks with items the players want. dragzmaxz: do you dragzmaxz: um have a link to that? dragzmaxz: i need something offical to show dragzmaxz: hehe sorry for the late replys doing homework Solik D: just some comments in scattered forum threads, and some homework Daos did Solik D: basically, he tore open the fourth adventure, tallied all the treasure, and compared it to the parcels for the levels it covered Solik D: it was waaaaaay off Solik D: have your DM do the same thing with KotS, it’ll be obvious dragzmaxz: how do we really know if it’s broken? Solik D: ok, here’s how Solik D: read through the module and write down the levels of every treasure item on a piece of paper (keep count of each) Solik D: then, open the DMG to page 126 Solik D: that page tells exactly what total of magic items the players should have, assuming 5 players Solik D: the adventure is levels 1-3 Solik D: so, it should have ALL TEN ENTRIES for Party Level 1, Party Level 2, and Party Level 3 in the adventure somewhere Solik D: Page 125 has rules for adding or removing treasure based on party size dragzmaxz: :P

Solik D: :-) Solik D: an even easier way for him to do it Solik D: just take the Total Monetary Treasure for levels 1-3 (page 126), add them up, and scatter that money in the dungeon somewhere, wherever (includes potions and gems) Solik D: that’s 3115gp worth Solik D: then, take all the magic items of each of those, pick something, and throw that in there Solik D: that comes out to: 1 level 7 item, 2 level 6 items, 3 level 5 items, 3 level 4 items, 2 level 3 items, and 1 level 2 item for a party size of 5 dragzmaxz: wow dragzmaxz: we have 6 ppl Solik D: okay Solik D: add the following: Solik D: 1 more level 3 item, 1 more level 4 item, and 1 more level 5 item dragzmaxz: i’m so just going to copy and paste this talk dragzmaxz: on the the forms he can just look at Solik D: k :-)
